The Longest Spinning Fidget Spinner

The fad for fidget spinners has died down somewhat, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t still obsessed with them.longest spinning fidget spinner One of the latest creations to hit the market is this little gem, which Guinness World Records says is the world’s smallest fidget spinner. Made by electronics and industrial components maker MinebeaMitsumi, the tiny device has an incredible amount of balance for something so small.

This isn’t the first record-setting spinner to come out of Japan, either.longest spinning fidget spinner The country’s top manufacturers have long been known for their precision machining, which is how they can produce such small pieces with such amazing balance. And they’ve now used that expertise to create a tiny gadget that’s so good at spinning that it earned a new Guinness record for the longest duration of top spun on one hand.

In the same vein, Mark Hayward holds the current Guinness record for most tops spun simultaneously in one venue. He spun 27 at the Madd Fun Arcade in New York City back in 2012. But while some schools have banned fidget spinners or limited their use to recess and free time, others have tapped into the kids’ enthusiasm for the devices by using them as lesson plans. A sixth grade math and science teacher in New York City, for example, had her students build their own fidget spinners from items like popsicle sticks, pennies, marbles, and bottle caps. The teams then measured their designs to determine size and mass. It was a great way to teach measurement, engineering, design, and creativity.
